Junk Collection

So, for the last few days I've been packing up my things to move back in with my parents. I've never been much of a "hoarder" but I am simply stunned by how much stuff I have accumulated. It's really quite amazing.

I mean, it's like "Why the hell did I buy that? And more importantly, why the hell do I still HAVE it?". We, as Americans, do seem to spend a lot of money of things that we really do not need (and by "we", I probably just mean "me"). I am not, nor have I ever been, really fixated on possessions. I actually consider myself to be pretty non-materialistic. I'm sure I've had my moments but those are the exceptions to the rule.

When I was younger, being a Navy brat, we moved relatively often so acquisition of "stuff" tended to be kept in check by the fact that we had to pack up and move so often. I've been in my house for 9 years now. I guess I kind of fell off the wagon a bit, eh.

The toughest thing now is figuring out where I'm going to put the things I do not wish the trash/sell/give away. My parents have a decent sized house but it's full of their stuff. It's not like they planned on one of their kids moving back in, if only temporarily. I'm trying to reduce my monthly expenditures, so getting a storage area isn't really much of an option. I have electronics and musical instruments; I would need the place to be climate controlled and a 10x10 (Probably about as small of a space as I could get by with) is roughly $80 to $100 a month. And if I just left everything where it is now, it would kind of defeat the purpose of moving in the first place.

Maybe once I get everything packed up, it will give me a better idea of what I may end up needing to do. Like so many other things happening right now, this is a little daunting. I'll get it figured out.
